The chief financial officer of Bank Vontobel is about to step down, having opted to become a personal adviser of Hans-Dieter Vontobel. His replacement is returning from a longer spell with UBS.

Martin Sieg Castagnola will present his last interim results of Bank Vontobel on July 28 before handing over his duties after 12 years to Thomas Heinzl, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

Heinzl will return to Vontobel, having already spent time working for the bank between 2012 and 2014. At the time, he was in charge of investments, sales and product management at what today’s is known as the wealth management unit of Vontobel.

At UBS, he most recently acted as chief operating officer of asset management and chairman of UBS Asset Management Switzerland. He has a PhD from University of St. Gallen, having specialized in capital market theory. He also received a diploma in engineering from ETH Zurich, where he focused on databank technology and artificial intelligence.

Sieg Castagnola in future will work for Hans-Dieter Vontobel, the former chairman of Vontobel and one of the owners of the private bank. He will support Vontobel in the management of his stakes and real estate.

Sieg Castagnola was one of the names mentioned as future successor to then CEO Herbert Scheidt. In the event, when Scheidt became chairman of the bank, Vontobel chose to appoint Zeno Staub as CEO. Staub was the former head of asset management and also a former chief financial officer.
