The Basel-based independent asset manager is naming a 16-year veteran from within as its new CEO, finews.com has learned.

Tareno is rejuvenating its management to coincide with its 20-year anniversary: the Basel-based independent asset manager's CEO and majority shareholder Josef Bollag (pictured below) will join the firm's board as chairman. The 60-year-old banker replaces Othmar Cueni, who takes over as vice-chairman.

Sybille Wyss will take over Tareno's operational management, a spokeswoman for the company confirmed. She is currently investment chief, head of portfolio and asset management, and Bollag's deputy.

The 36-year-old is one of the few women to run an independent asset manager in Switzerland. She joined Tareno in 2004 and has been responsible for a significant expansion in its portfolio and asset management activities.

Water Acquisition

She has been co-fund manager of a Tareno water solutions fund since it was launched in 2007, and sole manager for the last two years. She holds a bachelors degree in business administration.

Tareno, which manages 2.5 billion Swiss francs ($2.6 billion), last year bought Vontobel's sustainable water fund in two phases – dramatically advancing its fund volume to 140 million euros ($158 million).
