The Genevan wealth manager is nabbing a top banker from rival Bonhôte  to boost its business in Switzerland's capital.

Bordier is hiring Juerg Legler to as a senior private banker in Bern, effective immediately. Legler spent the last nine years building up a presence in the Swiss capital for Bonhôte & Cie, a Neuchatel-based private bank.

The move represents Bordier's ambitions to boost its domestic business beyond the French-speaking region, as many of its Geneva-based rivals including Lombard Odier, Pictet, and Mirabaud have done. Bordier said it plans to keep hiring in Bern, where two years ago François Baumeler and Lorenz Burkhalter joined from Notenstein La Roche bankers.

To underpin its intentions, Bordier is moving into more prominent office space on Spitalgasse, formerly occupied by Notenstein La Roche (now owned by Vontobel). The 176-year-old wealth manager, run by partners Grégoire Bordier, Evrard Bordier, Michel Juvet, and Christian Skaanild, manages 13.7 billion Swiss francs ($15 billion).
