The Swiss-based asset manager is nabbing a fund specialist from industry giant Blackrock.

The Zurich-based fund boutique is naming Matt Williams as its head of equity investment specialists, effective immediately, it said in a statement on Monday. Williams is to report to Greg Clerkson, head of discretionary investments since earlier this year.

Williams is among several defections from Blackrock, including CEO Peter Sanderson, who has been attempting a turnaround of GAM since last September. The asset manager is due for its second year of losses, though a top executive recently told finews.com GAM is poised to stanch outflows.

Williams, most recently a product strategist for European equities at Blackrock, will be based in London. His appointment follows those of Paras Bakrania, a product specialist for GAM's systematic trading arm, and of Davide Petrachi, head of product specialists for investment solutions.
