The Swiss crypto broker is boostings its compliance and legal ranks with a Credit Suisse lawyer in preparation for converting to bank status, finews.ch can reveal

Bitcoin Suisse is hiring Marc Schauwecker as its head of legal and compliance in Liechtenstein, a spokesman for the Zug-based company confirmed to finews.com. Schauwecker has worked as a senior legal counsel at Credit Suisse since 2019.

The move represents a step towards a banking license in the tiny principality next to Switzerland, the spokesman said. Schauwecker will report to Mauro Casellini, Bitcoin Suisse's country head in Liechtenstein, and to Lars Hodel, who is responsible for overall legal compliance.

Bolstering Legal Ranks

The eight-year-old firm wants a banking license in Switzerland, its home market, as well. It is looking to boost the ranks of its staff with both a separate legal as well as compliance chief, under Hodel.

Schauwecker has a PhD in law as well as an MBA, from the University of Rochester. One of a host of ex-Credit Suisse executives to join Bitcoin Suisse, Schauwecker previously worked for LGT, Vontobel, and Allianz.
