Switzerland's largest insurer has a new head of its corporate business division. Her appointment is proof of her rapid ascent through the Zurich management hierarchy.

Zurich Insurance Group has promoted Sierra Signorelli to head of its corporate business (the Commercial Insurance division) and member of the group executive committee, effective immediately, according to a statement released on Thursday.

Signorelli succeeds James Shea, who has decided to leave Zurich, according to the release. This in order to devote himself to new tasks outside the company, it said. Signorelli's successor as group chief underwriting officer will be announced in due course, the statement said.

Move(s) From AIG

Canadian Shea was brought into the post in 2016 by Zurich CEO Mario Greco; he had previously worked for American rival AIG. His successor Signorelli also joined Switzerland's largest insurer from AIG. She had been working in Shea's unit as chief underwriter since 2017. As also reported by finews.com, she took over this role for the entire group last September.

Signorelli joined Zurich in July 2017 and has long experience in the insurance industry having held senior leadership positions in the U.S., Asia, and Switzerland, the company said. She successfully transformed the underwriting function, strengthened its resilience, and ensured delivery of differentiated services and solutions to customers.
