The British bank's private bank in Switzerland advanced one of its own as investment chief.

HSBC is appointing Georgios Leontaris chief investment officer for Europe international and for the Middle East and North Africa, effective September 1, it said in an emailed statement on Monday. Leontaris will be based in Geneva, home to HSBC's private banking and wealth management unit in Switzerland.

A 14-year veteran of HSBC, Leontaris will report to global investment chief Willem Sels as well as to Karl Faivre, the regional investments and wealth solutions chief, the bank said. Leontaris was previously in various fixed income and investment advisory roles, most recently running the Swiss private bank's fixed income advisory.
