Banque Cantonale de Genève is naming a long-time Julius Baer banker as its new head of asset management.

BCGE is appointing Urs Ziegler as its head of asset management, effective January, it said in a statement. He is to replace Constantino Cancela, who is retiring, as well as take a seat in the cantonal lender's top management.

Ziegler joined BCGE last year from Banque Cantonale Vaudoise. From 1998 until 2006, he worked for Julius Baer after beginning his career at UBS predecessor bank Swiss Bank Corporation.

BCGE's fund arm employs roughly 30 staff in Geneva and in Zurich.
