Management consulting boutique Orbit36 specializing in strategic planning, risk, and capital management for banks and insurance companies is expanding its network. Will UBS become a client?

Orbit36, founded by high-ranking ex-UBS bankers, is bringing several former colleagues into its fold, the advisory announced in a post on Friday.

Based in Pfaeffikon on the Canton of Schwyz, Orbit36 is expanding its network with four new additions who bring with them several years of expertise in strategic transformation, treasury, and risk management and will enable the company to expand. The firm is relying on the network of its founders and managing partners Andreas Ita and Robin Dutt, both of whom had careers at UBS.

Vast UBS Experience

Andreas Bitz brings chief risk officer experience (CRO) from UBS where he was CRO of Treasury as well as CRO for wealth management in the Americas and head of market risk control for the investment bank. He had responsibility for the development and execution of the risk management framework for market and liquidity risks, including oversight and control for interest rate, structural FX, liquidity, and funding risks.

Former McKinsey associate partner Jochen Kaduff also brings UBS experience where for three years he was chief of staff to UBS's group chief financial officer Kirt Gardner. During his time at UBS, he led a digitalization program for front-to-back credit processes for UBS Switzerland. Before that, he worked at Credit Suisse, Vontobel, and Julius Baer

For a decade, Daniele Ferraro (pictured below) was head of UBS's liquidity reserves worldwide, responsible for the management of regulatory portfolios. He also held several trading and investment roles at the investment bank of UBS. Earlier career stops include the Long-Term Credit Bank of Japan, Kredietbank Suisse, and Banque Suisse de Credit et de Depots.

Ugo Lagrotta (pictured below) brings experience in financial risk management over multiple asset classes. At UBS, he led the trading team managing structural FX exposure in Treasury ALM and managed the counterparty exposure for the UBS Investment Bank. Before that, he worked for several years in the investment area for BP.

The Right Experts for the Right Times

The skills the expanded Orbit36 team has are likely to be very much in demand at UBS as it embarks on its forced takeover of Credit Suisse. Several consulting firms have been floated as to which one UBS might engage to help with the transition. It will be interesting to see whether the name Orbit36 appears on any such list.

Credit Suisse appointed Claude Moser as its new group-level treasurer in December. The former Orbit36 vice president has since been responsible for financing Credit Suisse and was in the thick of the action when the federal government, the SNB, and UBS finally stepped in to rescue Credit Suisse last month.
