Basler Kantonalbank to Be Led by a Female CEO for the First Time

The state-owned bank of Basel-Stadt is undergoing a leadership transition. The current CEO has announced his resignation, clearing the way for his deputy to take over.

As of March 1, 2025, Basler Kantonalbank (BKB) will be headed by a woman. The bank's board of directors has appointed Regula Berger, currently the Deputy CEO and Head of Commercial Clients, as the new CEO and Chair of the BKB Group Executive Board, according to a statement released on Tuesday evening.

Berger will succeed Basil Heeb, who has decided to step down as Group CEO of BKB at the end of February 2025 after six years in the role. Heeb plans to leverage his extensive leadership and professional experience in mandates outside BKB after passing the reins to Berger.

Experienced in Legal & Compliance

Regula Berger has served as Deputy CEO since December 2023 and has been Head of Commercial Clients since 2021. She has been a member of BKB's Executive Board since September 2019. From 2018 to 2021, she led the «Legal & Compliance» division. Prior to that, she spent over a decade as Head of Legal Advisory for Trading at Zürcher Kantonalbank.

Adrian Bult, Chairman of the BKB Board of Directors, commented on the succession plan: «Regula Berger's extensive technical expertise and strong commercial acumen qualify her for this role. Since joining the Group six years ago, she has demonstrated outstanding leadership and execution skills.»

The appointment of a new Head of Commercial Clients and Deputy CEO will be announced at a later date, according to BKB.
