Sygnum Taps into Lugano’s Blockchain Momentum

Swiss digital asset banking group Sygnum has opened its latest office in Lugano. With this move, the company aims to deepen its collaboration with the growing Bitcoin and digital asset ecosystem in Ticino, as well as with Plan ₿ – the city-led initiative promoting blockchain adoption.

«The new office in Lugano marks another milestone in Sygnum’s growth story. At the same time, the region has become a key innovation hub due to its strong support for digital assets – especially in light of increasing institutional adoption, clearer regulatory frameworks, and growing recognition of Bitcoin as a safe-haven asset,» said Mathias Imbach, Sygnum co-founder, and Group CEO, at the opening event.

Lugano has, in fact, gained recognition in recent years for its progressive stance on digital assets: residents can pay municipal taxes in Bitcoin and use digital currencies for purchases at a wide range of local merchants.

High-Calibre Events

Plan ₿ aims to transform the city’s financial infrastructure through Bitcoin technology. The initiative includes projects such as Bitcoin investment pools, sustainable mining, specialized education programs, and high-profile events like the «Plan ₿ Forum.»

«It’s encouraging to see institutions like Sygnum seize the opportunities that Lugano offers in the realm of digital and financial transformation. Innovation never sleeps – and the financial sector is no exception,» added Michele Foletti, Mayor of Lugano and President of the Plan ₿ Foundation.
