Brenninkmeijer Asset Manager Hires Former APG CEO
Anthos Fund & Asset Management is appointing a new chief executive. Ronald Wuijster will take over as CEO on August 10, 2026, subject to regulatory approval by the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM).
Wuijster succeeds Jacco Maters, who is stepping down after eight years as CEO, Anthos announced on Friday.
The incoming CEO brings more than 30 years of international asset management experience. Wuijster spent nearly two decades at APG Asset Management, including the past eight years as CEO.
In that role, he oversaw more than 600 billion euros in assets under management. During his career at APG, Wuijster also held senior positions as chief investment officer and chief client officer.
Part of the Swiss-Based Cofra Group
With his appointment, Wuijster is taking the helm of an asset manager with a distinctive ownership history. Anthos Fund & Asset Management is part of Switzerland-based Cofra Holding, which is owned by the Brenninkmeijer family.
The family’s entrepreneurial roots date back to the founding of clothing retailer C&A in 1841.
Today, COFRA has a broad international portfolio. Its three investment businesses are Anthos, private equity firm Bregal Investments, and real estate investment manager Redevco.
Headquartered in Amsterdam, Anthos operates as a standalone business within the Cofra Group, with its own governance, supervisory board, management, and investment teams.
From Family Office to Institutional Asset Manager
Anthos was founded nearly 100 years ago to manage the assets of the Brenninkmeijer family and its businesses. The family office remains a client of the asset manager.
Today, Anthos also serves other family offices, foundations, and values-based institutional investors. One of its publicly known clients is the Dutch Oranje Fonds, which selected Anthos to manage a 300 million euro mandate.
The company follows a fund-of-funds approach and offers investment strategies across equities, fixed income, private equity, absolute returns, multi-asset impact, and private real estate.
In recent years, Anthos has also expanded its offering to include outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) solutions, providing institutional clients with comprehensive investment management expertise tailored to their specific requirements.
Cofra Pursues Ambitious Growth Plans
The leadership change at Anthos comes as the Swiss-based Cofra Group expands its investment activities.
The group manages more than 35 billion euros across its investment businesses, comprising both Cofra’s own capital and assets from external investors.
Its strategic ambitions are significant: Cofra aims to double assets under management within ten years by expanding its range of investment strategies and attracting more external capital to Anthos, Bregal, and Redevco.
In recent years, the group has launched more than a dozen new investment strategies across asset management, private equity, and real estate.
This week, Bregal reported further progress in its fundraising efforts. The private equity firm closed Bregal Milestone III at its increased hard cap of 915 million euros. Investors included insurers, public and corporate pension plans, international asset managers, and other institutional investors across four continents.
«Strong Foundation»
Wuijster will now be tasked with helping to shape the next phase of Anthos’ growth.
«Ronald brings extensive asset management experience from his time as CEO, CIO, and CCO of APG Asset Management,» Cofra Holding CEO Boudewijn Beerkens said in the statement.
Wuijster himself pointed to the company’s values-based investment approach and said he looked forward to building on Anthos’ «strong foundation» together with his new team and clients.
In addition to his new role, Wuijster is a member of the supervisory board of the Dutch Cultuurfonds. He previously served as chairman of the Dutch Fund and Asset Management Association.
By appointing the former head of one of Europe’s largest asset managers, Anthos is bringing an experienced industry executive on board at a pivotal stage in its development. Wuijster’s task will extend beyond running the day-to-day business: he will be expected to strengthen Anthos’ position in the increasingly competitive institutional asset management market and contribute to the ambitious growth targets of its Swiss parent group.
