Bank of America has appointed Markus Meier Head of Equity Capital Markets (ECM) for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, expanding his existing responsibilities for Germany and Austria to include the Swiss market.

Meier will remain based in Frankfurt and continue to report to James Palmer, Head of EMEA Equity Capital Markets. He joined Bank of America in 2007 and, according to the bank, has played a key role in developing its ECM franchise in Germany and Austria.

The expanded mandate brings responsibility for the bank’s equity capital markets activities across the entire DACH region under Meier’s leadership.

Focus on the DACH Region

Bank of America regards DACH as one of Europe’s largest and most integrated capital markets and has advised on a number of major equity transactions across the region.

These include Porsche AG’s €9.4 billion IPO, Galderma’s CHF 2.3 billion IPO and Schott Pharma’s €935 million flotation, as well as capital markets transactions involving Fresenius Medical Care, Deutsche Post DHL, Qiagen, Rheinmetall and Hensoldt.

The bank was also involved in the spin-off and listing of Siemens Energy.

New Leadership for Equity Linked

In a second appointment, Thore Zimmermann has been named Head of EMEA Equity Linked.

Zimmermann joined Bank of America in 2021 and has since helped build the bank’s Equity Linked platform, working across corporate banking, investment banking, global capital markets and global markets.

Equity-linked instruments, including convertible and exchangeable bonds, are becoming increasingly relevant as companies combine capital raising with acquisition financing and capital structure optimization.

Bank of America sees further growth potential in this segment as corporate clients increasingly seek flexible financing solutions that combine elements of debt and equity.

Broader Leadership Changes

The two appointments form part of a broader investment in leadership across Bank of America’s international investment banking and global capital markets businesses.

The bank recently appointed Olof Engelbrekts as Country Executive for Switzerland as finews reported. Other leadership changes have included appointments covering Germany and Austria, as well as Thorsten Pauli taking over as Head of Asia Pacific Global Capital Markets.
