Google Cloud outage hits Revolut and UK banks
Alphabet, Google's parent company, said on its status page that there were problems in the cloud service's London region. The company initially gave no further details on the cause. Google said customers could try moving their services to other cloud regions, if possible.
A Google spokesperson declined to comment further.
No impact on money and data
Several financial service providers experienced disruptions on Tuesday morning, according to news service "Bloomberg", among others. Revolut said a "service interruption" was affecting several services. The company also assured customers that "their money and data are safe." The outage was caused by Google Cloud, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Lloyds Banking Group said some online services were affected. However, customers were still able to log in to the app as usual. The company is monitoring the situation closely, a spokesperson told the agency. According to Downdetector, other services were also affected on Tuesday, including HSBC and the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), a subsidiary of NatWest Group.
According to the news agency "DPA", the disruptions also affected ING's digital payments and account services. Users in various European countries were reportedly complaining about intermittent restrictions on app access and transactions, it said.
