J. Stern & Co. completes merger with Geneva asset manager

The merger of Swiss subsidiary J. Stern & Co (Switzerland) AG with bvo capital SA had already been announced. With regulatory approval now secured, the transaction has been completed, the company said on Tuesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Geneva executives remain on board

Cédric Coignard, the former CEO of bvo capital, will become a partner at J. Stern & Co. and join the investment committee. Together with Laurent Pallanca, also a partner at bvo capital, he will continue to work from Geneva. The existing Zurich office will remain in place.

The two asset managers say they pursue a similar investment strategy, focusing on long-term investments in selected global quality stocks. Their investment philosophy and process are to remain unchanged.

"Following Finma's approval, the merger with bvo is an exciting moment for our clients and for both of our firms," said Jérôme Stern, managing partner and CEO of J. Stern & Co. "We invest our own assets side by side with those of our clients."

Assets of 2.5 billion euros

J. Stern & Co. says it manages about 2.5 billion euros in assets. In autumn 2024, finews reported assets of 1.9 billion euros. Founded in 2012, the firm has offices in London, New York, Zurich and Malta. With the merger, Geneva is added as another Swiss location.

Bvo capital was founded in 2021 and specializes in concentrated global equity portfolios. The company manages the FiftySix Equity Fund, among others, as well as individual client mandates. No figures were given for bvo capital's assets under management or the group's future total size.

Through the transaction, J. Stern & Co. is particularly expanding its resources in research and client service. The firm specializes in a small number of investment strategies. Around 20 percent of the assets previously under management are attributable to the Stern family and the company's partners.
