The power of active management

Liontrust advocates that active management can deliver enhanced risk-adjusted returns over the long term when based on rigorous and repeatable investment processes.

Robust processes

There is no house view at Liontrust and each of the strategies across the capabilities offered by Liontrust – equities, fixed income, sustainable and multi-asset – have distinct processes. Staying true to investment processes helps to create an in-built risk control for Liontrust’s investment strategies, especially in more challenging environments, by preventing them from investing in companies and funds for the wrong reasons.

Investment managers run high-conviction portfolios, which means they are benchmark agnostic, and engage with investee companies. Funds and portfolios can have zero exposure to individual sectors if this meets the investment thesis and process of the managers.

One of the distinct investment processes offered by the company is Cashflow Solution, which is applied by James Inglis-Jones and Samantha Gleave to the management of the Liontrust GF Pan-European Dynamic Fund. The process identifies companies that generate significantly more cash than they need to sustain their planned growth yet are lowly valued by investors on that measure and are run by companies committed to an intelligent use of capital. James and Samantha are two of just 12 active equity investors to feature in a recently published book called Stock Market Maestros.

Among the other strategies offered to investors in Switzerland are Liontrust GF Global Technology and Liontrust GF High Yield Bond. The Liontrust GF Global Technology strategy, managed by Storm Uru and Clare Pleydell-Bouverie, invests in innovative disruptors and leaders in the technology sector. The Liontrust GF High Yield Bond strategy, managed by Donald Phillips and Sharmin Rahman, seeks to take advantage of inefficiencies in fixed income markets through an understanding of the economic environment and bottom-up stock analysis.

Partnering with clients

Another part of delivering good outcomes for investors is through exceptional client service and providing support at all times. This includes via dedicated sales representatives; face-to-face meetings and presentations; and relevant, personalised and engaging communications tailored to the personal interests of clients.

Liontrust’s investment managers are accessible and committed to engaging with clients. Liontrust offers other support to clients including educational content and transparent reporting.

Transparency

Liontrust has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since 1999. This provides comfort to our clients through the rigorous governance required and the good business discipline it engenders. Published financial statements, disclosures on governance and shareholder reporting deliver enhanced transparency. And being publicly listed enables Liontrust to incentivise employees through share ownership and align the success of colleagues with clients and shareholders.

The company believes in making decisive decisions, being dynamic and ambitious, promoting positivity and adaptability to change. Everyone at Liontrust is responsible for upholding the highest standards of integrity, being trustworthy and transparent, and making decisions with a clear sense of fairness.

Financial education

Liontrust is a strong believer in the power of financial education. Liontrust partners with an organisation that delivers digital maths education to primary and secondary schools across the UK which enables pupils to challenge classmates online and playing live games across the globe.

The Liontrust Foundation was launched in 2024 with the purpose of using the power of entrepreneurship and innovation to drive social mobility and the recovery of nature, with a key focus on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
