After a decade, Zug-based asset manager Valterna is changing leadership. The new CEO was previously with UBS in Lucerne.

Ivo Roos is stepping down as CEO of Valterna after ten years at his request. He remains with the firm and will fully devote himself to serving his clients, according to a statement Wednesday.

René Brunner becomes the new CEO on July 1, having learned the investment advisory and asset management trade from scratch and gained 35 years of professional experience, according to Valterna, which previously was Asset Management Partners. Roles include various specialist and management positions at Credit Suisse and UBS. Brunner spent the past twelve years at UBS as head of wealth management for the Lucerne region.

In March, the firm changed its name from Asset Management Partners to Valterna, a combination of the words «value» and «alternative» which it says represents the elementary values of the firm. It seeks to create value by offering alternative and private market investments.

An Ideal Successor

With him, they have found the ideal successor for Roos and he will be a great reinforcement for the company. «René Brunner is ideally qualified for this position, has a very high customer focus, and has an extensive network in our core business,» says Valterna chairman Hugo Schuermann.

Although Roos (pictured below) is relinquishing operational management, he will continue to play a key role in shaping Valterna's fortunes as a member of the board of directors. Since a management buyout in 2013, he has «very successfully developed Valterna into a leading financial boutique in central Switzerland,» according to the statement.
