BBVA Switzerland is building its competencies in the digital asset space with a new hire. 

BBVA Switzerland is hiring Philippe Meyer as head of its digital and blockchain solutions division, it said in an emailed statement Friday. 

In the newly created role, Meyer will be responsible for optimizing the operational efficiency and capabilities in cybersecurity, custody, diversification, and education, the statement said.

Meyer, who previously worked as a freelance blockchain consultant, has had professional stints at Avaloq, UniCredit, and Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank.

The bank sees traditional and digital assets coexisting in the future and is reinforcing the new business line two years after going live with a crypto offering for its private clients.

BBVA Switzerland a is fully owned subsidiary of BBA Group which is Spain's second-largest bank by assets.
