Zurich-based Vontobel has promoted Markus Pfister as its new COO and a member of the Executive Committee. Another internal promotion was announced.

Markus Pfister, head of Structured Solutions and Treasury (SS&T), becomes the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Vontobel effective January 1, replacing Felix Lenhard, according to a statement from the wealth and asset management firm Wednesday.

Pfister joined Vontobel in 2004 as head of Financial Products Engineering and Development. After holding various positions within Vontobel, he took over as head of the SS&T Center of Excellence in 2020 and became a member of the Executive Committee of Bank Vontobel.

Stepping Down

In May, Lenhard announced to the board of directors that he wished to step down from the COO role and the end of the year after 22 years at the firm, 13 of which were as COO.  He expressed a desire to spend more time with his family.

He will maintain ties to Vontobel beyond January to ensure an orderly transition, according to the statement.

Stepping Up

Vontobel announced another internal appointment, with Otto Huber becoming the new head of the SS&T Center of Excellence. Since 2020, he has headed the Treasury and Fixed Income Solutions unit, before which he spent 15 years at Credit Suisse where his last position was Global Head of Liquidity Risk Management.

Huber will report to Head of Investments Christel Rendu de Lint, who will also represent SS&T on the Executive Committee which she joined earlier this year. Pfister's appointment as COO is subject to regulatory approval.
