After over three decades at UBS, the head of its business for the super-rich in Bern is moving to an independent asset manager in Basel.

Thomas Steiner is appointed partner and senior client advisor at independent Basel-based wealth manager Tareno, the firm confirmed on request. According to «Citywire» (registration required), which first reported the move, he took up the position in July and will look after super-rich clients (UHNWI) at Tareno.

Steiner knows his way around this client segment, having recently headed the super-rich team at UBS in Bern. His UBS career spanned 35 years in corporate finance, investment, and private banking.

Joins the Board of Directors

With Steiner's appointment, Tareno demonstrates its preference for UBS veterans. At the beginning of the year, Roman Jermann, the former head of wealth management for UBS's Basel region, joined the asset manager's board of directors, as finews.ch reported.

The company managed client assets worth CHF 2.7 billion Swiss francs at the beginning of the year, and employed around 40 people in Basel, Zurich and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
