Swiss Life Asset Managers has hired a banker to lead the collective investments business at the asset management unit of Switzerland's largest life insurance company.

Robin van Berkel 160Swiss Life Asset Managers appointed Robin van Berkel (pictured left) as head collective investments. Van Berkel joins Swiss Life from Swiss Mobiliar Asset Management, where he was the deputy head.

Sticking Together

Van Berkel will assume the newly created position on September 1 and also take a seat on the executive committee, the company said in a statement today. He will be responsible for the fund business and collective investments, focusing mainly on expanding the collective investments business. In his role as head collective investments, van Berkel will report to chief investment officer Stefan Maechler.

Maechler and van Berkel had previously worked together at Mobiliar and private bank Rued Blass. Maechler joined Swiss Life two years ago.

A Banker at Heart

Van Berkel started his career at Credit Suisse's fund business in 1991 and joined Rued Blass in 2007 as director of sales and business development. He also worked for Deutsche Bank (Switzerland) as business manager for the wealth management in northern and central Europe.
