Swiss private bank Lombard Odier has engaged one of the world's hottest architecture firms to design a new lakeside headquarters for its 2,600 staff in Geneva.

Herzog & de Meuron will design Lombard Odier's new headquarters. The Basel-based star architecture firm's bid beat seven rival firms, Lombard Odier said on Thurday. Lombard Odier decided unanimously for Herzog & de Meuron's project, the firm's first in Geneva.

«It will be a symbol of the bank of tomorrow by combining a sense of timeless elegance with innovation as well as blending harmoniously with its exceptional surroundings,» Lombard Odier's senior partner Patrick Odier said in a statement.

The building in Geneva's Bellevue area will conclude by 2021 and provide workspace for roughly 2,600 bankers. The bank said the new head office represents a strategic development and underscores its confidence in the future.
