Generali Switzerland is taking the cue from famous innovators at companies such as Microsoft and has launched a laboratory to foster the development of promising technology.

The garage is where the initial ideas behind the success of Microsoft were put together by a group of nerds – the founder of the company now is known as the richest man on earth.

The comparison may seem a little risqué: still, Generali Switzerland, the Swiss unit of the Italian insurer, wants to engender the same feeling of innovatory prowess and has opened its own innovation garage at its country headquarters in Adliswil.

External and Internal Insurtech Specialists

Insurance specialists and external partners together are working on ideas of how to best address customer demands in the digital age, the company said in a statement on Friday.

The lab includes Generali staff, members of the company start-up Lings as well as five external startups from the fields of artificial intelligence, crypto security and insurtech. Fintech incubator F10, the University of St. Gallen and companies such as Salesforce are complementing the line-up as partners.

The Generali garage is a little less frugal than Bill Gates’ original. The offices are open space complete with comfy chairs. The oversize work spaces are meant to make communication between the various specialists more easy.
