«The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will Be Glad That You Did)» by Philippa Perry

the book you wish your parents had readWhat it is:

Perry is a well-known television personality and psychologist in the U.K. The premise of her book is «all behavior is communication,» thus in order to break patterns of undesirable behavior – like anger, lack of self-control, escapism – we need to first ask ourselves what that behavior is meant to express.

Why I recommend it:

Despite the title, I think the book is essential reading for anyone who questions whether their current self is truly the best they can be. Regardless of whether or not you are a parent, the book is a trigger for self- examination and hence, self-development. Readers will find themselves questioning where certain opinions, habits and behaviors come from, what were the formative influences ? And in identifying the source of the behavior they will give themselves the opportunity to make more conscious choices.
