Vontobel is adding more firepower to its wealth management office in Basel: two ex-UBS bankers will join the team of their former colleague at Switzerland's largest bank.

Alain Bouvrot and Mathias Eichenberger will join the Vontobel team in Basel on August 1, 2020, the Zurich-based private bank said in a statement on Wednesday. The two bankers will report to Daniel Schuepbach, head of the advisory team at Vontobel Wealth Management.

Bouvrot and Eichenberger will move to Vontobel from UBS, where they have been working in the rank of senior relationship manager. Both Bouvrot and Eichenberger have extensive experience in advising wealthy Swiss clients and are personally established in the Basel region.

Growth Region Basel

Their new boss, Schuepbach, also started his career at Switzerland’s biggest bank. He joined Vontobel in 2019 and took charge of the regional wealth management team in November.

Vontobel wants to grow its private banking in Basel despite the current crisis.

«Basel is one of the locations that is generating growth, and we will continue to expand our presence there on a targeted basis in the future,» said Schuepbach. «Going forward, the demand for financial advice – and therefore also for active wealth and asset management – will remain strong; this has not changed because of the corona crisis.»

Strategic Acquisition Prompted Expansion

Vontobel expanded its presence in Basel – the home of drugmakers Roche and Novartis – when it acquired Notenstein La Roche private bank two years ago. It moved into the former premises of La Roche on Rittergasse 25. It has about 35 staff in wealth and asset management and a number of partnership agreements with regional wealth managers.
