The Swiss private bank is expanding in Britain, with its current chief handing over to a new hire.

Geneva-based Mirabaud said it is naming Stuart Bates as head of its wealth management branch in the U.K., in a statement on Thursday. It didn't specify when Bates will take over from the current head Harry Thorburn, who who wants to focus more on client needs, and will join the U.K. business' executive committee.

Bates has been the operating chief of Jar Capital, a London-based independent wealth manager, for the past four years. He has previously worked for C. Hoare & Co., Julius Baer, and Credit Suisse in similar roles.

He is an operations veteran who was instrumental in Julius Baer's integration of Merrill Lynch's London business in a 2012 deal, and then at Hoare spearheaded several operational initiatives. He will report to Etienne d' Arenberg, a Mirabaud limited partner and head of the U.K. market.
