The U.S. bank's country chief in Switzerland is returning to a top job in her native Poland.

The New York-based bank is sending Elzbieta Czetwertynska back to Poland, where she began her career, as chief country officer and acting CEO and overseer of Handlowy, from June 18, according to a memo seen by finews.com. Handlowy is one of the oldest banks in Europe and fully owned by Citi.

The role is a promotion for Czetwertynska, who spent the last two years as Citi's country chief in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Monaco. She is replacing Slawek Sikora in Poland and will report to Kristine Braden, Citi's Europe chief (and also a former Citi Swiss boss).

Executive Homecoming

Czetwertynska is a 27-year veteran of Citi, which has sent her to various postings in Europe as well as to Ecuador, where she was chief country officer as well before taking the Swiss job. The Polish job represents a homecoming: Czetwertynska worked for Citi in Poland from 2004 until 2013, including as head of commercial banking.

Her move comes shortly after Citi elected to divest its consumer business in Poland. Czetwertynska will oversee its institutional businesses as well as a solutions center, an internal service provider.
