Swiss small- and medium-sized entreprises have high expectations of their banks on sustainability, according to the CEO of Commerzbank Switzerland Marc Steinkat.

According to a study by Commerzbank Switzerland on small and medium-sized enterprises’ attitudes to sustainability and future viability, a large majority consider themselves well prepared.

"For most, sustainability is a three-part harmony of ecology, economics and social responsibility," said Marc Steinkat, head of Commerzbank Switzerland, during the presentation of the study in Zurich this week.

Obligation

Steinkat said banks had an obligation on environmental, social, and governance issues.

«Their task is to inform their customers and support them in the development and implementation of sustainable business models.»

Steinkat added that he saw room for the interaction between banks and customers to grow, especially on funding programs, government tenders or ESG taxonomy, i.e. the uniform classification of measures.
