Insurer Zurich has appointed a data analytics veteran who also had a brief spell at Credit Suisse to the new post of chief data officer.

Zurich has appointed Peter Kasahara to the new role of chief data officer to oversee all aspects of data management and to help drive its digital transformation, the insurer said in a press release Wednesday.

The company said Kasahara (pictured below) would take up his new position from October 1 and lead global data management and governance, develop new data analytics capabilities and products, as well as expand Zurich’s machine learning competencies. He will be based in Zurich and report to Chief Information and Digital Officer Ericson Chan.

Kasahara joins Zurich from PwC, where he was the managing partner for PwC Digital Intelligence, providing corporate customers with data advice and solutions for their digital transformation. Before joining PwC, he held various senior leadership roles at IBM, including General Manager of IBM iX in Europe and General Manager of Analytics and Strategy Consulting in Europe.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he spend two years at Credit Suisse as head of project management for Swisscard AECS, a joint venture between the bank and American Express.
