The sudden departure of António Horta-Osório at Credit Suisse means Swiss insurer needs to restart its search for a new chairman.

Axel Lehmann (pictured below) won't stand for reelection at Helvetia, the Swiss insurer said in a statement (in German) on Monday. The Swiss banker was on Monday appointed to chair Credit Suisse, following the immediate departure of António Horta-Osório after less than nine months.

Lehmann, a former UBS and Zurich Insurance executive, was to have been elected to Helvetia's board this April and then in 2023 take over as chairman. Instead Thomas Schmuckli will stand in temporarily, Helvetia said. Current Chair Doris Russi Schurter is not standing for reelection due to personal reasons.
