A dual national with broad insurance experience takes on two roles at Swiss insurer Helvetia in the fall. He comes from the Dutch NN Group.

The board of directors of Swiss insurer Helvetia's board appoints Fabian Rupprecht as chairman of the Group Executive Management and Group CEO, effective at the beginning of October. Rupprecht has been CEO of International Insurance and a member of the Group Executive Management of the Dutch NN Group since 2018.

The dual Swiss-German citizen has the broad insurance experience needed for Helvetia's key markets, the St. Gallen-based all-insurer announced in a statement Thursday.

Rupprecht held various international management positions at the AXA Group where he was CEO for the Middle East and Africa region and CFO for Emerging Markets and the Mediterranean region. Over his nearly three decades in the insurance business, Rupprecht worked in both life and non-life areas.

Predecessor Steps Down

Rupprecht will take over as Group CEO on October 1 from Philipp Gmuer, who announced his retirement at the end of 2022 after 30 years with Helvetia Group. He had taken over the post from his predecessor Stefan Loacker in 2016 and had still been confirmed in the post by then-chairman Pierin Vincenz.

Gmuer built an ecosystem of insurance services around, which included the purchase of leading Swiss mortgage intermediary Moneypark.

The appointment is subject to the approval of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority.
