The Swiss bank is betting on smooth sailing in the U.S, and is asking its New York-based employees to return to their desks next week.

While Credit Suisse in Zurich is still largely working from home, investment banking head Christian Meissner is asking Wall Street-based employees to return to their desks on February 1, «Bloomberg» reported on Monday. Meissner appears to be taking to heart a cautiously optimistic approach from top medical advisor Anthony Fauci in the «New York Times».

The Swiss bank isn't the first to ask New York-based staff to return physically: Goldman Sachs pushed ahead only to backpedal shortly after due to the spread of omicron, the most recent virus variant. Several banks including Citi and J.P. Morgan have ordered staff inoculated – an approach which may work in the U.S., but not in Switzerland.

Credit Suisse will still enable more flexible work models for some of its staff, the newswire reported. Meissner is seeking to stabilize the investment bank, which last year lost more than $5 billion in losses on Archegos, a prime brokerage-hedge fund client.
