The Federal Council names heads and deputies of its seven governmental departments for next year.

Effective January 1, Karin Keller-Sutter will head the Federal Department of Finance, the government said in a release Thursday (in German).

Karin Keller-Sutter replaces Ueli Maurer, who served as Switzerland's finance minister from 2016 to 2022. 

Keller-Sutter's previous position as head of the Federal Department of Justice and Police department will go to incoming federal councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider.

The second incoming federal councilor is Albert Roesti, who will head the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications.

According to the government's website, the Swiss government's new formation is as follows:
