How Swiss Banks Perform in the AI Rankings

The hypt Report Banking Switzerland 2026 examined how Swiss banks are perceived and recommended by leading large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and its peers. According to the report, these systems are becoming increasingly important. Within just one year, the share of AI-driven business recommendations rose from 6 percent to 45 percent. Traditional Google search declined to just over 70 percent, while Facebook has also unexpectedly regained relevance as a source of information.

Key findings from the study:

  • 82 percent of customers read AI-generated summaries of reviews.
  • 31 percent of consumers exclusively use companies with ratings of 4,5 stars or higher. However, fewer than 10 percent of the analyzed bank branches with more than 15 reviews exceed this threshold.
  • 74 percent of search users consider only reviews written within the last three months.
  • 89 percent of customers expect a response to their feedback. Companies that remain silent or rely on generic template responses not only lose trust but are also classified by AI systems as «inactive.»

The analysis is based on Google reviews of Swiss bank branches, which are among the sources incorporated into responses generated by various AI models.

One important finding is that exactly two-thirds of all branches have too few reviews to allow for a reliable assessment. A total of 1,650 branches have fewer than 15 Google reviews and were therefore excluded from the report’s rankings. Since online reviews are one of the key sources from which LLMs derive recommendations, a limited data base directly affects a branch’s visibility in AI-generated results. Across all branches, the average rating is 3,7 out of 5 stars, while the median branch has 24 reviews.

Zurich Cantonal Bank Leads the AI Rankings

In the newly developed AI Visibility Score, Zurich Cantonal Bank (ZKB) achieved a score of 96 percent across all four tested LLM systems. It was followed by Raiffeisen Switzerland (94 percent), the neobank Neon (91 percent), PostFinance (86 percent), Migros Bank (82 percent), Yuh (79 percent), and UBS at a considerably lower 68 percent.

The score is based on four pillars:

  • Share of mentions (30 percent): frequency of mentions compared with competitors across all queries.
  • Ranking position (25 percent): placement within recommendation lists.
  • Sentiment and tone (25 percent): qualitative assessment by the AI systems.
  • Source authority (20 percent): credibility and quality of the sources used.

Many Banks Actively Collected Reviews

In the traditional Google review rankings, UBS increased its rating from 3,70 to 4,25 stars within one year, a gain of 0,55 points. At the same time, the number of reviews nearly tripled, rising from around 6'400 to more than 16'600. Berner Kantonalbank improved from 3,78 to 4,22 stars, ZKB from 3,47 to 3,89, and Migros Bank from 4,05 to 4,30.

Four AI Systems, Four Different Approaches

The analysis highlights clear differences in the «personalities» of the AI models. Gemini places the greatest emphasis on Google reviews and local signals. ChatGPT relies more heavily on media sources such as Handelszeitung and Moneyland. Perplexity responds strongly to current market conditions, which benefits neobanks such as Neon and Yuh. Claude takes a more analytical approach, praising cantonal banks for their stability and explicitly identifying online reviews as the most important source for recommendations.

Switzerland’s Top-Rated Branches

The UBS branch in Davos Platz tops the national Google review ranking with 4,9 stars based on 193 reviews. It is followed by Raiffeisenbank Mittelrheintal in Widnau (4,9 stars, 156 reviews), UBS in Chur (4,8 stars, 284 reviews), and Raiffeisenbank Züri-Unterland in Neerach (4,9 stars, 136 reviews).

Among medium-sized banks (20 to 49 branches), Aargauische Kantonalbank leads with an average rating of 4,52 stars across all 32 locations, followed by Graubündner Kantonalbank (4,07) and Schwyzer Kantonalbank (3,91).

Among large banks (more than 50 branches), Baloise ranks first with 4,36 stars, followed by Migros Bank (4,30) and UBS (4,25). Berner Kantonalbank (4,22) and Raiffeisen (4,20) complete the top five.
