Liechtenstein’s Oldest Crypto Exchange Receives MiCA Licence
Smart Valor has reached a major regulatory milestone. The company has been granted authorisation under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) by the Financial Market Authority Liechtenstein (FMA).
Smart Valor has been operating in Liechtenstein since 2018 and describes itself as the country’s oldest crypto exchange. The company is deeply rooted in the Crypto Valley ecosystem and has been led by its founders, Olga and Oliver Feldmeier, for the past nine years.
Foundation for Further Growth
The MiCA licence enables Smart Valor to expand its operations under a harmonised European regulatory framework. The authorisation imposes stringent requirements in areas including compliance, governance, security and operational processes.
«Receiving the MiCA licence is a moment of great pride for us,» said Olga Feldmeier, CEO of Smart Valor. «We built this company with a long-term vision: to make access to digital assets secure, regulated and trustworthy.»
According to Feldmeier, the licence confirms the quality of the platform, the strength of its compliance framework and the dedication of the team over the past nine years.
Expanding Across Europe
With MiCA, the European Union has established the first harmonised regulatory framework for crypto-assets. According to Smart Valor, the licence provides the foundation for further expansion across the European market.
«Liechtenstein is one of the most progressive jurisdictions for blockchain and digital assets,» said co-founder Oliver Feldmeier. «We are proud to contribute to this ecosystem as a home-grown exchange and to continue expanding our business from Liechtenstein on the basis of MiCA’s clear regulatory framework.»
Smart Valor offers trading and custody services for digital assets, as well as deposits and withdrawals in Swiss francs and euro. In Switzerland, the company is known, among other things, for enabling customers to purchase cryptocurrencies through more than 1,500 SBB ticket machines. Smart Valor also provides crypto infrastructure services to financial institutions.
