Philip Geiger: «I Continue to Benefit from my Military Career as a Company Commander»
In the section Backstage, interesting personalities from the financial sector and beyond provide insights into their personal preferences every Wednesday.
What do you do first in the morning?
The first thing I do every morning is make my bed. I then start the day by reviewing the financial and investment markets over breakfast.
What is the best thing about your job?
Advising my clients on wealth-related matters creates a special kind of mutual trust, which I value immensely.
A moment that changed your life?
My year of professional experience in Abu Dhabi. Working internationally with people from a wide range of cultures broadened my horizons.
What cars do you own? Which is your favorite?
I currently own a four-cylinder estate car and a sports car with twelve cylinders. Although the latter is less practical, as a petrolhead I find it considerably more enjoyable.
What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?
Focus on what matters, but pay attention to the details. Stay hungry and self-confident, yet humble.
What are you particularly proud of?
My military career as a company commander. It was an excellent training ground, and I continue to benefit from it today.
What do you do when you have doubts?
Preferably strength training at the gym. It is something that repeatedly grounds me and helps me think clearly.
What is your favorite wine?
Red wine: Phélan Ségur. Champagne: Ruinart Blanc de Blancs.
What projects are you currently working on?
We are in the midst of succession planning at Swissprivate. We began the process early, as it is proving to be both multifaceted and time-consuming. We are well on our way towards finding a solution that works for everyone involved.
What do you admire in other people?
I admire passionate and creative thinkers who pursue their goals with great ambition and discipline.
What would be the biggest surprise for someone who had to take over your job for a day?
The variety of my day-to-day work. It ranges from strategic asset allocation across multiple banks to organising a luxury trip. Switching rapidly between the roles of banker and concierge is demanding, but fascinating.
What is your personal drive?
I find it fulfilling to provide my clients with the highest level of service.
What are you afraid of?
The next market correction, which is as certain to come as night follows day.
Your favorite watch brand?
Patek Philippe.
Is there an unfulfilled dream you would still like to realize?
One day, I would like to combine my passion for cars with my work as a «wealth concierge».
Your best investment?
Education.
