The insurtech has named Sebastian Schimurda as Country Lead Switzerland, effective 1 September, succeeding Osman Elkaz, who has decided to leave the company, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

Schimurda began his career in 2007 as a client adviser at Zurich Insurance and held various roles within the group until 2020, most recently as an expert in cyber risk and financial crime. He subsequently became co-founder and managing director of AIC Swiss, an internationally active independent insurance broker specialising in the real estate and construction sectors.

Commenting on the appointment, Friedrich Riddermann, Chief Market Officer of the Wefox Group, said: «He knows the insurance industry inside out and has successfully demonstrated his entrepreneurial capabilities. In particular, he has built long-term, trusted relationships with clients and partners.»

Founded in 2015, Wefox describes itself as a European insurance platform that combines intelligent insurance distribution with service solutions for insurers in its role as a Managing General Agent (MGA). The company says it holds leading market positions in Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
