Cinerius Surpasses the €20 Billion Mark

Consolidation among independent wealth managers in the DACH region continues. Zug-based Cinerius Financial Partners is acquiring a majority stake in the German wealth manager Franz Martz & Söhne Private Treuhand.

With the transaction, as well as organic growth and further acquisitions still in the process of completion, Cinerius is surpassing the €20 billion mark in assets under management for the first time, the company said on Monday.

Originating from a family office

Franz Martz & Söhne, based in Saarbrücken, manages more than half a billion euros and, according to Cinerius, is among the 50 largest independent wealth managers in Germany.

The company traces its roots to the family office of the Martz entrepreneurial family. Its business history dates back to 1948, when a shoetree manufacturer was founded in Pirmasens. This developed into an internationally active family business producing high-performance components for sports and football shoes.

Since 2011, Franz Martz & Söhne has also served external clients.

As part of the transaction, the current owners of Franz Martz & Söhne are in turn taking a stake in Cinerius. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Management stays on board

Operationally, little is expected to change for clients at first. Patrick Jann remains managing director of Franz Martz & Söhne. Armin Weinsheimer will accompany the transition and plans to step down from management in 2027 upon reaching retirement age.

The existing contacts and personalised client advisory services are also set to remain in place. At the same time, the wealth manager will gain access to the resources and expertise of the Cinerius group.

«With Cinerius, we are gaining a partner that shares our understanding of independent wealth management: personal advice, entrepreneurial thinking and long-term responsibility towards our clients», says Jann.

13 partner companies

For Cinerius, surpassing the €20 billion threshold marks another step in its growth. «This means we have reached an important milestone in our development», says Joël Schüepp, CEO of Cinerius Financial Partners. The growth will enable the group to further expand its capabilities and resources for its partner companies.

Cinerius now has 13 partner companies with more than 200 employees at 16 locations. The group focuses on independent wealth managers in the DACH region and Luxembourg. The individual companies are intended to remain entrepreneurial and autonomous, while Cinerius provides central resources and support for their strategic and operational development.

The completion of the acquisition of Franz Martz & Söhne is still subject to the required regulatory approvals. Completion is expected in the first half of 2027.
