Credit Suisse has hired another prominent UBS veteran. The investment banker will take charge of the global markets equities business, a key position within the bank.

Credit Suisse (CS) has appointed Michael Stewart as head of equities at the global markets unit. Stewart «will be a driving force in executing our strategy to facilitate collaboration opportunities» with International Wealth Management, Asia-Pacific and the investment bank, Brian Chin, the head of global markets, said in a statement to staff made available to finews.com.

Significant Hiring Success

The hiring of Stewart is a major coup for Credit Suisse. The investment banker has been at cross-town rival UBS for five years, first as global head of equities, switching recently to global investment products and services at wealth management.

He's previously held similar positions at Merrill Lynch in New York and London. He will join CS in June 2017, taking the place of Michael Paliotta, who was head of equities since the spring of 2016 after Steven Garnett went into retirement. Paliotta will stay at CS, Chin said in the memo.
