Swiss insurer Mobiliar’s new executive for information technology head is joining from rival Zurich. He brings a wealth of experience in – quite literally – managing under crisis conditions.

Thomas Kuhehne will be the new head of information at Mobiliar, and will also join the management team, the Bern-based insurer said in a statement on Monday. The 48-year-old Swiss national will take up his new post on January 1.

He will succeed Rolf Trueeb, who is retiring at 63 years. Kuehne previously worked for the competition, and is currently chief information officer at Zurich’s German subsidiary.

IT Head in Kosovo

The qualified data specialist has held several leading positions at Credit Suisse, UBS and Zurich Insurance. From 1999 to 2001 Kuehne worked for the U.N. as IT head in Kosovo, where he gained experience not only in financial, but also humanitarian catastrophe management.

At Mobiliar he will be responsible for not only for overseeing a complex IT structure, but also a diverse mix of digital startups: As finews.ch recently reported, the insurer has taken a majority stake in fintech Bexio.
