Bâloise Switzerland is getting a new CEO, with the insurer promoting from its ranks.

The Board of Directors appoints Clemens Markstein as the new CEO of Baloise in Switzerland and as a member of the Baloise Group's Corporate Executive Committee. The 52-year-old German assumes his new role as CEO of Baloise in Switzerland on July 1, according to a media release Friday.

He succeeds Michael Mueller, with the appointment subject to the approval of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority Finma. Mueller takes over as CEO of the Baloise Group from Gert De Winter. As announced in January and reported by finews.com, De Winter decided to step down from the role he held since 2016.

Markstein joined the Baloise Group Division Switzerland Executive Committee in 2009 as Head of Product Management Corporate Customers. He has been Head of Operations & IT since May 2017. He started his career at Boston Consulting Group in Stuttgart and held various positions at Allianz in Germany and Switzerland before joining Baloise.

Broad Experience

He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2011 and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Network of Insurance (INI), the largest global network of independent insurance companies since 2019. Markstein has also been a member of the board of directors of Prevo-System since 2018.
