Following the attacks on Israeli territory, Hamas has called for cryptocurrency donations. A counterattack is now taking place on their channel as well.

Israeli law enforcement agencies have seized digital tokens and coins worth millions of dollars in the escalating dispute with Hamas. It also ordered the closure of dozens of cryptocurrency accounts, the «Financial Times» (behind paywall) reported, citing anonymous sources.

The measures aim to dry up that source of funding. In the wake of its attacks on Israel, Hamas and its affiliated organizations have been calling for donations via the cryptocurrency channel. Following a separate shutdown in June, Israel's defense minister said fighting terror financing is «even more complex when digital currencies are involved.»

Tether also Blocks Accounts

According to the article, the Israeli action on Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, blocked over 100 accounts.

Tether, whose tokens play an essential role in crypto asset trading and made a name for itself in Switzerland as an investor in Lugano, said it had frozen 32 addresses holding over $873,000. Tether has linked those addresses to «terrorism and warfare» in Israel and Ukraine.
