Swiss insurer Helvetia is busy expanding its digital offering and plans to build its own ecosystem relating to housing. It has now helped itself to a stake in a digital rental platform.

Helvetia Venture Fund, a unit of Swiss insurance firm Helvetia, said it made an investment in flatfox, according to a statement released on Friday. The company didn’t specify the size of the stake it has bought or how much it paid for the share.

flatfox is a Zurich-based startup that provides a platform for people seeking accommodation as well as professional real estate firms. The platform enables them to engage in a digital rental process for residential properties.

Expansion in Switzerland

Investis and Ringier Digital Ventures also took part in the financing of the startup. The new money available will enable flatfox to expand the business geographically within Switzerland as well as in terms of its content.

Helvetia’s investment is part of its strategy to build an ecosystem around residential properties, based on its acquisition of Moneypark. Helvetia bought the mortgage brokerage at the end of 2016.
