Vontobel's ex-top banker for U.S. clients has joined Union Bancaire Privée, finews.com has learned. The move comes nearly five months after a quarrel with his former employer.

Vontobel let go Deepak Soni, its U.S. wealth management boss, at the end of January, as finews.com reported at the time. The Zurich-based bank cited «differing views of corporate and leadership culture» at the time, without specifying what had led to the falling-out.

It later emerged that Soni's wasn't the only exit in Vontobel's Swiss Wealth Advisors Unit, or VSWA. Four experienced private bankers departed for Bellecapital one month after Soni's exit. The Vontobel unit also lost two advisors in Dallas, TX to larger rival UBS.

Soni's hire is a coup for UBP, which secured former Notenstein La Roche boss Adrian Kuenzi to bulk up its Zurich-based book in February.
