Credit Suisse has concluded talks with Apple and credit cards soon will include the Apple Pay functionality. This is in no small measure a reaction to customer demand.

The negotiations between Switzerland’s second-largest bank and Apple took quite a while and the two sides weren’t able to conclude the talks in the autumn. Now though, an agreement has been reached and Credit Suisse’ customers will be able to register their credit cards with Apple Pay by the end of April, the bank confirmed on Thursday.

«We see a change in the payment patterns of our clients and a growing trend toward mobile payment solutions,» said Anke Bridge Haux, head of digital solutions at Credit Suisse Switzerland. «With the expansion of the offering we are meeting the needs of our clients for more flexibility for online payments and mobile devices – also abroad.»

Weakness of Swiss Solution

The reference to the use of Apple Pay abroad emphasizes one of the weaknesses of the Swiss solution Twint. Credit Suisse was one of the banks to focus on Twint as the only mobile payment solution available to clients.

Earlier this week, Credit Suisse had announced that it had reached an agreement with Samsung Pay, making its solution available with the Credit Suisse cards, also by the end of April. The bank added it was in talks with further providers – with Google the obvious candidate.
