The board of Swiss stock exchange operator SIX has a new member representing one of the country’s top banks – Credit Suisse. The change became necessary with the appointment of a new chief executive at the Zurich-based bank.

The annual general meeting of stock exchange operator SIX on Monday elected André Helfenstein to its board of directors. He will replace Thomas Gottstein as the representative of Credit Suisse, according to a statement by SIX on Tuesday.

Succeeding Gottstein

Gottstein assumed the position of at the top of Credit Suisse in February following the departure of Tidjane Thiam. Helfenstein took the job of Gottstein at the helm of the Swiss banking business at Credit Suisse.

Helfenstein, 53, who has dual a Swiss and U.K. citizenship has been with the No. 2 bank of Switzerland for the past dozen years. Before his latest appointment as head of the Swiss unit, he held a slew of top jobs across the business.
