The Swiss bank is adding Google to the mobile payment offerings for its credit card clients.

The rapid growth of mobile payments is another side effect of the coronavirus pandemic: Credit Suisse said contactless payments more than doubled in the last 12 months, while cash withdrawals slumped.

As a result, the Zurich-based bank is baking Google's digital payment system into its offering, it said in a statement on Thursday. The Android-based option will be available on Credit Suisse credit cards from mid-August, the bank said.

International vs Swiss

Credit Suisse already offers Apple and Samsung pay options, as well as payments through wearables including Swatch, Fitbit, and Garmin. These payment options round out Twint, a domestic mobile payments system supported by Swiss banks.

«We are seeing a change in needs relating to private payment transactions. People want the greatest possible flexibility when choosing their preferred method of payment,» Credit Suisse's Swiss head of digitalization and products said.
