Barclays recently appointed a new global head of private banking. The top banker's previous job had been left vacant and now falls to Gérald Mathieu, the CEO of Barclays Bank in Switzerland.

Gérald Mathieu is Barclays' new head of private banking for the markets in Europe, Monaco and Switzerland. Mathieu will take on his new duties in addition to his role as CEO of Barclays Switzerland, according to a statement by the bank on Monday.

Mathieu replaces Jean-Christoph Gerard in this role. Gerard had taken over the job of global head of private banking in August.

Mathieu assumed the position as CEO Switzerland two years ago and helped turn the business around. He previously had been in charge of the bank’s business in Monaco. Before joining Barclays in 2010, he had been the head of private banking of UBS in Paris.
