Vontobel is nabbing a 14-year veteran Credit Suisse private banker. The move follows the defection of a heavyweight Swiss banker earlier this year.

The Zurich-based bank is naming Stefano Sala as its head of wealth management for Italian-speaking Switzerland, or Ticino, effective immediately, it said in an emailed statement on Monday. Sala worked for Credit Suisse for the last 14 years, most recently running a wealth planning team for southern Europe, from Lugano.

He will report to Gianpiero Galasso, who also defected to Vontobel from Credit Suisse in May, following a wealth shake-up at the Swiss giant late last year. The move represents another step in Vontobel's expansion in Ticino, where it acquired Finter Bank in 2015 and also grew in the region when it bought Notenstein La Roche in 2018.
