Top banker Christian Meissner is making his first notable hire since joining the Swiss bank two months ago, finews.com has learned.

The Zurich-based bank is hiring Vincenzo de Falco as head of investment banking advisory coverage at its flagship wealth arm, effective January 1, according to a memorandum seen by finews.com from Christian Meissner and Babak Dastmaltschi. The duo are co-heads of a new unit launched last month to cement ties between entrepreneurs in the capital markets arm and the private bank.

De Falco «will build out our current presence and expand our footprint in Europe,» the duo wrote. A spokesman for Credit Suisse confirmed the contents of the memo. The Italian banker is the first notable hire since Meissner joined two months ago, abandoning a board seat at Julius Baer to do so.

Veteran Italian Dealmaker

De Falco is a veteran corporate dealmaker who was most recently head of investment banking at UBI Banca. He worked for Credit Suisse for four years until 2010, including as co-head of its investment banking committee for the Swiss bank's Milan branch.

Currently based in Milan, de Falco will move to Zurich for the job. He reports to Meissner and Dastmaltschi, but also European private banking head Robert Cielen as well as to Cathal Deasy, who is head of mergers-and-acquisitions in the investment bank's European, Middle East, and Africa unit.
